Welcome to Room 204!

Today was the day I "finished" my classroom. Notice the quotations, because it will never be actually finished. After hours of crafting and laminating and taping and hanging and recruiting my poor family members to help me, it's ready for the students.

So, here's my tour! Welcome to Room 204, sixth grade math!

Picture
Here's the first view you see when you step foot into my room!
Picture
My desk! Since I'm slightly OCD, this will hopefully stay organized throughout the year. Keep your fingers crossed for my own sanity. Crafted: I made the sunflower vase out of an old soup can and glued pencils around the whole thing! Bought some Michael's sunflowers and put them in for decoration! It's tough to see in this picture, but the little black frame all the way on the left is a to-do list! I printed it on lined paper and put the glass over it so I can write my to-do list with dry erase markers!
Picture
The board behind my desk! The Rowan Forever is made from an old t-shirt pulled over a show box lid! Big Brother Big Sister of the Year Award. Paint samples made into little pockets. Cork boards with pictures and quotes. And of course, my S.
Picture
The students' area! This includes their inbox for homework along with a reversible "turn it in/keep your work" sign. Also, thanks Ryan for helping to make my hall passes! I love them!
Picture
Zoomed in on my FREE homework passes thanks to the Reynics family garage.
Picture
Here's my "what do I do when I'm done/extra credit" opportunity! It's aligned with the Common Core and provides questions the students can answer. I'm going to encourage students to take the initiative throughout the marking periods to complete these problems to extra points. They can never complain they didn't have the opportunity!
Picture
"Our Mathematicians"! Here, I will display my students' work. Super easy to make, BTW. Bought scrapbook paper from Michaels and laminated it! Hot glued push pins to the back of clothes pins and popped them in the wall. It's an easy way to hang their work for them to be proud of!
Picture
Everybody needs some poofs in their classroom. Free and SUPER easy to make!
Picture
These are a little tricky to see because of the lighting! They are labeled jars for each of my class periods. I'm going to have a ticket award system for individual incentives. Students will receive tickets for good work or positive behavior. I will pull tickets for students to win!
Picture
My "Quotation Station" for my daily inspirational quotes. Also serves as my spot for vocabulary! We will have the definitions written for the students to use as a resource. When the are finished, they will move to the below picture!
Picture
My Common Core Word Wall! Once we are finished with our vocabulary words, they will be moved over here for students to reference throughout the year!
Picture
Quick DIY! Spray painted the mirror black and added "I CAN SEE THE LEADER IN ME". I figured it would be great for tricky middle school years.
Picture
Left Side: Whole class behavior management. Each day, I will select one of the skills that the students need to be extra conscious of. If they are successful, their class period will earn a point. At the end of the month/marking period, the winning class will have a party! Right side: Dear Students, I believe in you!
Picture
Made this poster for less than $2 at the LRC! Thanks, Rebecca, for the idea! This can so easily be made for any other subject.
Picture
Can't forget my DIY stool! Again, thanks Ryan for the help with this! We repurposed his mom's old stool. Painted the legs white, added foam, and wrapped the blue/white chevron fabric over the top. Total cost: $4.99!
Picture
I really love this idea and hope I use it! On the top of my boards I have this long black timeline with the months above. I plan on taking pictures of the students working throughout the year and displaying their pictures on the timeline!
Picture
Attempts to keep myself organized.
Picture
Bookshelf with students' supplied! On the top shelf, I printed out Pinterest printables and put them in Dollar Store frames! There are three more of these around my room. I love them!
Picture
Love these chalkboard-inspired posters! Also, I made "vertical" and "horizontal" resources for the kids!
Picture
A "Two Minute Countdown" to keep the students organized!
Picture
Student Self-Check I made for free out of this recycled frame!
And there you have it! I'm looking forward to this school year SO much (even though I have to admit I'm a bit nervous). Thanks for checking out my room. Please let me know if you have any ideas for a 6th grade math class or just any advice for a new teacher!

Only one week and a day until the first day of school. AH!
