DIY: Envelope Pillows

Today, we had a snow day, so it was the perfect day to work on a quick DIY project. 

Over the weekend, I stopped at JoAnn's fabric. I'm not sure what color couch I'll have once I actually want to use these pillows, so I knew I wanted colors that were somewhat neutral. Here's what I found:

I scavenged through the basement and found a few old pillows. Don't mind the embarrassing Snoopy pillow from my middle school obsessive years: 

After messing around with my mom's super old sewing machine, I realized it wasn't going to work and knew I had to do it the old fashioned way - by hand. Thank goodness I had Home Ec in high school... 

Here we go:

1. Flip the fabric so the nice side is facing "in". I decided to make an envelope-style pillow cover, so all I would need to do is slip the pillow inside. Fold it how you see it in the picture below, and make sure you overlap the two flaps. This will act as the envelope to hide the old pillow inside.
2. Sew the two sides, making sure you get it straight as possible.

3. Once both sides are sewn, flip the fabric so that the nice side is on the outside now.
4. Slip your own pillow inside.
5. Voila!
